I love coffee. I probably drink too much of it. Part of the reason I love coffee is because I love the people and the places behind it. I’m a regular at Crimson Cup’s shop in Clintonville, my breakfast tours stop at Fox in the Snow, and I love my workplace downtown being close to One Line, Cafe Brioso, and the Roosevelt Coffeehouse. And our coffee scene keeps growing! This week’s Three To Try focuses on three new(er) shops.
1. Brioso Roastery & Coffee Bar– Columbus’ newest spot is a second location for Cafe Brioso. As their spot at Gay and High Streets continues to bustle, they’ve had the need to grow, especially more room for roasting and cupping, so they recently opened the roastery on East Long Street, right across from the Roosevelt Coffeehouse. There you can order pour overs, sip espresso, and watch them roast.
2. Das Kaffeehaus – Das Kaffeehaus is based out of Lithopolis, and last fall they established their Columbus outpost inside Zauber Brewing. The European-style coffee shop features loads of drinks, techno music, TVs tuned to European channels, German pastries, and lots of space for meetings or working. Also, Zauber’s bar is open early, if your idea of “happy hour” means some time in the a.m.
3. Crimson Cup Upper Arlington – CC added a second retail spot late last year. I love their Clintonville shop, but now they have a place to practice their craft in Upper Arlington, right at Lane and Northwest. The new digs are beautiful, and they take every opportunity to showcase their coffee preparations, from espresso drinks to the pour over bar to nitro cold brew on tap.
